Father Fights For Paternal Right

Dr. Nathaniel Acolatse addressing the media

A staff of Ga West Municipal Hospital, Dr. Nathaniel Acolatse, has called on the relevant state institutions to intervene in according him parental rights over his two kids from his former wife, Maria Fianyo.

Addressing journalists in Accra, Dr. Acolatse recounted that on Friday, December 16, 2016, his former wife Maria, together with Cletus Fianyo and her stepbrother, came to fetch two of his eight children whom he had enrolled at Acropolis Maranatha Academy – Pokuase, without his permission. This was after she had left the children in his care for years.

He claimed that he has been denied access to his children since then, stressing that, “Aside from blocking access to my children, some suspicious characters have emerged, and these people are providing pseudo-fatherly roles over my kids.”

He added, “These suspicious characters are parading themselves as my children’s dad, leading to a paternity struggle between them, hence my desire to know who the true father of these two children is.”

Dr. Acolatse has called on authorities to aid in conducting thorough medical check-ups on the children after they have been retrieved from Maria and her father.

“The institution responsible must order a DNA test on the children, and while awaiting results, the children must be kept in the care of the state. The children are innocent and have a right to a happy life,” he pleaded.

After the press conference, Maria Fianyo, who was interviewed on the phone, stated that Dr. Acolatse who claimed to be the father of the children has not been performing his fatherly duties, and, therefore, does not deserve the paternal right over the kids.

Meanwhile, Dr. Acolatse has vehemently opposed the claims, insisting that he performs his fatherly role in the lives of the children, and described Maria Fianyo’s claims as false and unfounded.
