Fire Consumes 4

The fire scene

FOUR PEOPLE were feared dead following an inferno that flattened about 15 wooden structures in Kumasi at the dawn of Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary.

A 37-year-old woman, her two children and her fiancée were said to have been trapped in one of the rooms during the blaze.

The calamity reportedly occurred at Breman Kontwima, a suburb of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, at about 1:00 am, sources told this paper.

The intervention of fire fighters helped to prevent the inferno from traveling into other wooden structures on the compound.

Most of the people that rushed to the disaster scene suspected arson, as they gave various narrations concerning the outbreak of the fire.

Some of them alleged that they could smell petrol all over the place and so they believed someone intentionally set the place on fire.

They also alleged that the four persons were trapped in their room and got burnt because an unknown person had locked the door from outside.

Even though there was no evidence of people having been burnt, the people still maintained that four people were trapped in the room by the fire.

One Gabby, who claimed he was at the scene, insisted that the fire was intense so the four people were burnt into ashes.

He said that other people managed to escape from their rooms “but the four people could not escape because the door to their room had been locked from outside.”

According to him, the depressing issue had been reported to the police, who had initiated investigation to unearth the cause of the fire.
