Some of the affected spare parts dealers searching through the debris after the fire had been doused
Several vehicle spare parts valued at thousands of cedis were destroyed on Monday afternoon by fire at the Suame Magazine in Kumasi.
The cause of the inferno was not immediately known, but eyewitnesses disclosed that the fire was aided by the dryness associated with the harmattan winds.
The fire started in a shop, located at the Garages Lane of Suame Magazine, around 2:00pm and consumed everything on its path as it swept through the vicinity.
The spare parts dealers at the location attempted to quench the fire in order to save their spare parts, but their efforts were not enough.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) who rushed to the scene managed to stop the fire from reaching other shops.
When DAILY GUIDE visited the scene some hours later, the affected people were busily searching through the debris in an attempt to retrieve spare parts which survived the fire.
The affected spare parts dealers bemoaned how they have lost their source of livelihood, and so they appealed to authorities to assist them.
