Convener of the #FixtheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker Vormawor has been arrested at the Kotoka International International Airport ( KIA), after arriving at the KIA on Friday, February 11, 2022
The suspect was picked up by the Tema Regional Police Command following a post he allegedly made on a social media platform to the effect that he would stage a coup himself if the E-Levy Bill is passed by Parliament.
According to Police reports available to DGN Online, the suspect Barker-Vormawor left the United Kingdom Friday, 11th February 2022 for Accra, where he is scheduled to have a series of meetings with the diplomatic community.
He arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) at 4:59 pm on TAP Air Portugal flight TP 1527, where he was whisked away by some armed men on his way into the arrival hall at KIA.
His arrest becomes necessary following a coup plot comments he made on Facebook and also inciting the army to stage a coup over the controversial E-Levy bill in Parliament.
He posted that “If this E-Levy passes after this cake bullshit, I will do the coup myself. Useless Army!”
In another post, he said: “Okay, let’s try again. If this E-Levy still passes after this cake bullshit, then may God….Help us to resist oppressor’s rule, With all our will and might forevermore. (2x)
Useless Army. Anaa, the value is the same?”
However, a section of the public on social media condemned his action, calling on the security agencies to arrest him over his comments.
Some of the social media users in a post noted that “Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor lacks discernment.”
The Police in a statement said his post contained a clear statement of intent with a possible will to execute a coup in his declaration of intent to subvert the constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
The Police said he will be arraigned before the court on Monday, 14th February 2022.
“We continue to call on the good people of Ghana to avoid making pronouncements that may lead to a breach of the peace of the country as any such acts contravene the laws of the country” the statement added.
