Forest Guard Goes Missing

Vitus Yuordong

HOPE IS gradually fading out for the discovery of  a 33-year-old  forest guard, Vitus Yuordong who got missing during an operation on July 2, 2023  to clamp down on illegal chainsaw operators in Asukese Forest of the Sunyani Forest District of Bono Region.

Two search parties from the district have combed the reserve including communities bordering the reserve such as Daadom, Yawsae, Antwikrom, Atronie, Kufuor Camp, and Nsuta to no avail.

The Sunyani Forestry District Manager, Francis Brobbey, speaking to the paper, explained that after a successful operation in the forest, two of the guards decided to attend nature’s call in the bush taking different directions. One of the two whose name was not given returned after about 30 minutes to the spot where the rest waited but Vitus Yuordong failed to return.

His colleagues became alarmed and searched the surrounding bushes but he was nowhere to be found. He got missing with his accoutrements including a pump action gun with registration number AFOO63604, a machete and a handbag. He wore green camouflage forest uniform.

According to the forestry manager, the case has been reported to the Bono Regional Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service for investigation.

He explained that after Vitus colleagues failed to locate him in the forest, they reported the case to other forest-fringe communities including Asaame and Nsuta, but nothing was heard about him.

The team returned with three chainsaw machines retrieved from the illegal operators. Vitus hails from Nandom in the Upper West Region.

Mr. Brobbey has appealed to anybody who comes across him to report to the nearest police station or any of the forest districts in the country.
