GHANA IS soon to join a growing number of countries in a worldwide campaign to get companies and individuals to make a public declaration to develop a culture of ethics in public office, at the workplace and in private lives.
The global movement – dubbed: ‘Unashamedly Ethical’ – is guided by a founding vision to transform society by taking a stand for ethics, values and clean living.
The Ghana version is to be launched on August 23 on the sidelines of this year’s biennial national convention of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI).
It will be performed by former Chief Justice and member of Council of State, Mrs. Justice Georgina Wood, at the Accra International Conference Centre, venue for the convention.
Key leaders in industry and commerce, political leadership, civil society and religious institutions, have been invited to lend their personal and corporate backing and make the pursuit of ethics and values a part of national life.
National President of FGBMFI-Ghana, George Prah, who announced this to newsmen in Accra, said the ‘Unashamedly Ethical’ campaign was anchored in a vision to transform nations by first transforming leaders and players in the marketplace.
He said it was quite logical that the FGBMFI, an organization made up of working men and women, should spearhead such a national campaign.
“This campaign is very pertinent in a Ghanaian society which has, for years, been battling corruption, a canker that is eating into and destroying the very fabric of society. Its existence ensures that valuable resources are not devoured as a result of corruption,” said Mr. Prah.
Being an industrialist like many other businessmen, he has experienced the ravages of corruption and low ethical values in his working life.
Dr. Graham Power, Founder and Chairman of the Power Group which he founded in 1983 in Cape Town, South Africa, is expected in Accra next week to deliver the keynote address.
The FGBMFI is the world’s largest Christian businessmen’s organization, networking thousands of members in more than 70 nations. It has been in existence since 1952 and is purely intra-denominational. FGBMFI-Ghana was formed on October 29, 1984. It has branches in all but one of the 16 regions of the country.
