The late Akua Donkor
The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has commemorated the first anniversary of the passing of its founder, Madam Akua Donkor, with a solemn ceremony at her hometown, Ejuratia, in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region.
Led by the current leader of the party, Philip Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, the leadership visited her graveside to pay their respects and reaffirm their commitment to her legacy.
Speaking at a press briefing on the one-year anniversary of Akua Donkor’s passing, Mr. Appiah Kubi emphasised that the Ghana Freedom Party continues to pursue the ideals the late founder championed.
He said, “The Ghana Freedom Party is not dead, and the passing of our founder, Madam Akua Donkor, will not break our resolve. Instead, it has strengthened our commitment to serve the people of Ghana with integrity, courage, and bold solutions.”
The leader of GFP also assured Ghanaians that the party is reorganising and preparing to become a formidable force ahead of the next general election.
According to him, Akua Donkor’s political philosophy was never about personality-driven, rather, it was rooted in offering Ghanaians a genuine alternative to the dominance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP), a duopoly he believes has slowed the nation’s progress for decades.
“Madam Donkor believed in the power of the ordinary Ghanaian, her dream was to see a country where leadership is built on service, not greed. We are keeping that dream alive,” he added.
Roman Fada further announced that the GFP has initiated a series of programmes across the country as part of its restructuring agenda.
That, he stated, include youth mentorship initiatives, entrepreneurship support schemes, and nation-wide engagement forums aimed at attracting young Ghanaians who desire meaningful change among several others.
“The youth are the heartbeat of our future, the Ghana Freedom Party is opening its doors to every young person who believes our nation can do better. We are building a movement that will restore hope and create opportunities,” he noted.
Responding to growing public concern on issues of corruption and other important issues in Ghanaian politics, Roman Fada revealed that the party is currently identifying and mobilising some professionals, including communicators with unblemished character to lead the party.
“We are not looking for politicians who want to enrich themselves. We are recruiting men and women of integrity, competence, and compassion; people who understand that leadership is about sacrifice,” he declared.
“We want our communicators to engage the public with ideas, not insults. Ghanaians are tired of divisive politics. The GFP will lead the way in showing that political communication can be decent, intelligent, and patriotic. The Ghana Freedom Party will rise again, stronger and more united to continue the work Madam Akua Donkor to free Ghana from the politics of division and greed,” he emphasised.
Mr. Appiah Kubi added that the outpouring of sympathy following Akua Donkor’s passing and the rising frustration with the traditional parties could place the Ghana Freedom Party as a credible alternative in the 2028 elections.
