This year’s edition of the annual Ghana DJ Awards has been launched at a ceremony held in the studios of Joy Prime, a television channel on Multi TV in Accra.
The ceremony which was telecast live on Joy Prime was used to unveil the nominees for this year’s awards ceremony.
The 2018 edition of the awards, according to the organisers, is on the theme ‘The Chosen’.
It attracted a number of celebrities such as Nigerian Lady DJ Cuppy, US-based international music consultant Rab Bakari, Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei, Kuami Eugene, Kidi, Feli Nuna, Akoo Nana, DJ Killa Fingers, among others.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Merqury Republic Events, Merqury Quaye, who is also the founder of the Ghana DJ Awards scheme, revealed that this year’s award winners will take home exciting prize packages, in addition to a designed trophy which will be presented to them at the awards ceremony.
“We also have a surprise package and giveaways from our sponsors for all music fans who will attend this year’s event,” he added.
This year’s event will also witness performances from three international DJs who will rock the stage with some selected local DJs like DJ Killa Fingers.
Merqury Quaye explained that the awards scheme is an exciting annual programme designed to foster the development of Ghana’s music industry by rewarding and celebrating radio, mobile and club DJs who have excelled in their fields of endeavour.
With over 25 award categories, including lifetime achievement award and best international DJ of the year, the scheme is expected to draw DJs from across the country and beyond for awards and recognition.
In all, Starr FM’s celebrity DJ, Vyrusky, topped the list of nominations with a total seven nominations.
