Team Ghana and their officials
Ghana, among 15 other African countries, will compete in the 2023 International Relay Championship scheduled for today in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Lagos.
The International Relay Championship is a biennial track and field sporting event where teams from around the world compete in relay, some of which do not meet Olympic standard.
Athletes representing Ghana at the competition are Ansah Sarfo, Barnabas Koby Aggeh, Reymond French, Edwin Kwabla Gadayi, Israel Anane Domeh, Salam Adama, Solomon Diafo, Florence Agyemang, Rafiatu Nuhu, Fatao Mariama, Aduntira Grace, and Lovina Awusi.
Team Ghana will compete in the 4×100 men’s relay, 4×400 relay, and 4×400 mixed relay.
According to sources, participants are keyed up for the championship for the ultimate prizes and bragging rights.
Meanwhile, at the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) II Senior Championship at the Stade de Kegue in Lome, Togo, Ghana swept home 24 medals.
Nigeria and Kenya took the women’s and men’s 4×100 meters relay gold medals to conclude the third day of the 2022 African Athletics Championships in Mauritius.
Praise Idamadudu, Tima Godbless, Praise Ofoku, and Tobi Amusan were the first over the line in the women’s race in a winning time of 44.45sec.
Silver was awarded to South Africa in 44.87 and bronze to The Gambia featuring yesterday’s 100m winner Gina Bass in 44.97.
Men’s gold was awarded to the Kenyan quartet of Dan Kiviasi, Mike Mokamba, Samwel Imeta, and new African 100m champion, Ferdinand Omanyala.
The team finished in 39.28, far behind silver medallists South Africa, featuring yesterday’s silver medallist Akani Simbine.
South Africa clocked 39.79, narrowly ahead of bronze medallists Zimbabwe in 39.81.
Miranda Coetzee of South Africa took gold in the women’s 400m final in 51.82.
Niddy Mingilishi of Zambia was second in 52.36 and the bronze was awarded to Kenyan Veronica Mutua in 52.76.
