THE GHANA Journalists Association (GJA) has conferred an honorary membership status on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Justice Yaw Ofori.
The NIC boss was specially recognized at the 25th GJA Awards ceremony held last Saturday at the Movenpic Ambassadors Hotel in Accra, marking its silver jubilee.
The honourary award is in recognition of the commissioner’s initiatives which include the introduction of a Motor Insurance Database (MID), an intervention to checkmate fake motor insurance and championing the institution of the Insurance Education Fund aimed at building the capacity of industry players while sensitizing the general public on the need to insure their lives and properties.
Speaking to some journalists shortly after picking his award, Mr. Ofori expressed joy for the honour done him, saying the award came as a surprise to him since he had thought he was just doing his work; little did he know there were observers out there.
He expressed his appreciation to the leadership of the GJA for such the honour done him and went on to advise the general public to do the best they could in their “small corners”.
Since assuming office, the NIC boss has demonstrated astute leadership skills by the implementation, coordination and management of many initiatives and developments within the insurance space.
His contribution to the development of the insurance industry in Ghana and his achievements, key among them being the introduction of the MID in Ghana, cannot go unnoticed.
