The new classroom block at Atonsu M/A Cluster of Schools
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has completed and handed out five classroom projects to some schools in the Ashanti Region.
The projects included a three-unit classroom block at Adansi North District, a six-unit classroom block at Asokwa Municipality, a six-unit classroom block at Kumasi High School, a 12-unit sanitary facility, and a six-unit classroom block at Atonsu Cluster of Schools.
The Corporate Social Investment arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, GNPC Foundation, undertook the projects upon a request.
Dr. Dominic Eduah, the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, said the Ashanti Region had had its fair share of developments undertaken by GNPC.
He added that since its foundation in 2017, the Foundation has funded 123 physical projects to the Ashanti Region using oil proceeds.
According to him, 57 boreholes, 43 classroom blocks, dormitories, science blocks, sick bays, and dining halls, as well as 10 Astro Turfs and sanitary facilities, are among the projects undertaken in the region.
Aside from these physical projects related to the environment and social amenities, Dr. Eduah stated that the Foundation had also invested in programmes related to education, health, and economic empowerment.
He revealed that the GNPC has offered 7,800 scholarships to local students since 2017, with 1,500 scholarships issued this year alone, and 340 to other Ghanaian students studying overseas.
Dr. Eduah asserted that in the area of health, the Foundation had sent 200 students to Cuba to be trained as doctors, and they will return next year to support Ghana’s healthcare system.
He urged the beneficiaries and authorities to put the structures to good use.
Nana Tawiah Mensah, the Gyaasehene of Dasubimadwene, thanked the GNPC for providing the facility and noted that it would help to improve education in the area.
He pledged to work with stakeholders to promote a culture of facility maintenance.
The headmaster of Kumasi High School, Benjamin TawiahTwum, praised the GNPC Foundation for stepping in to help bridge the school’s infrastructure gap.
