Goaso NADMO Officials Hot

Saeed Yussif

TWO OFFICIALS of Goaso District of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Ahafo Region are in hot waters following directive by the Auditor General to provide evidence of usuage and receipt of items collected at the organisation’s store.

The Municipal Co-ordinator, Saeed Yussif and Finance Officer, Lucy Valentina Nsiah risk coughing amount of GH¢10,500 should they fail to account for the items.

Section 52 (7) of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) provides that a Principal Spending Officer shall maintain adequate records of government stores.

The Principal Spending Officer is discharged of accountability of government stores where the stores have been consumed in the course of public business and records are available to show that the stores have been consumed.

However, Report of the Auditor General on Public Accounts for period ending December 31, 2020 has revealed that management of NADMO, Goaso raised five payment vouchers in respect of various disaster relief items such as cutlasses, wellington boots and cement totalling GH¢10,500 but could not provide the relevant store records as well as the final disposal of the items.

The auditors fear that the items were not used in the interest of the community since they could therefore not authenticate its usage.

They have therefore directed management to provide evidence of the receipt and usage of the items.
