All is set for this year’s Gold Fields Professionals Golfers Association (PGA) championship, which is scheduled for November 25 to 28 at the Damang Golf Club, Alfred Baku, Executive Vice-President of Golf Fields Ghana and West Africa, told the media yesterday.
In a press briefing to announce the seventh edition of the annual event, he said the Covid-19 pandemic has compelled his outfit and the organisers to slightly change the competition’s format.
He stated that this year’s edition will not factor in foreign countries while qualifiers will also be played at different courses, adding that there will be no cut-off (continues play) as well as open amateur sessions.
He, however, pointed out that the prize money of GH¢ 40,000 and GH¢ 9,000 for the main and seniors categories respectively remains unchanged.
In all, 32 pros comprising 24 regulars and eight seniors will battle for supremacy.
Dignitaries expected to grace the event are the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Sam Jonah, among others.
The competition has received support by way of sponsorship from Engineer & Planners, Total Petroleum, ATS, BCM, Genser Energy, Vega Industries, Wilhelm Construction, Boison Construction, Seedco Engineering, Wayoe Engineering and Carmeus and B5 Plus.
Also at stake are trophies and special souvenirs for winners in the various categories.
