Gold Fields Tennis Tourney Ends On High Note

Gold Fields’ annual tennis tournament ended on a high note and saw the number of participants increase from 67 to 82 since its inception in 2010.

This year’s internal tennis tournament was sponsored by Kamit Service and Supplies Company Limited with support from De B. Rex Fire Consults.

The tournament saw some exciting matches as Emmanuel Amos-Abanyie secured back to back Gold Fields Professional Men’s singles titles after defeating Nicholas Yaw Amoah. Amos Abanyie triumphed 6-1, 6-4. The women’s singles title went to Eunice Minta, who defeated Amanda Tetteh 6-2, 6-4.

The men’s 45+ singles championship was won by John Adingelah, who beats Collins Okyere 6-3, 6-3.

Osman Karim also outwitted Francis Arthur 6-1, 6-0, to win the social men’s singles championship.

In addition, Daniel Acquah defeated Glennise Yirenkyi 6-3, 6-2 to win the men’s singles advanced Beginners’ title.

In other finals, Jude Asiedu and Prince Avane won the men’s doubles title with a 9-6 win over Henry Asante and Albert Naamu.

Tracy Ampah and Amanda were winners of the ladies doubles after ousting Eunice Minta and Rosaline Minta-Afari 9-8 (10/6).

Josephine Kamara surpassed Josephine Thompson Biney 8–2 to win the ladies consolation trophy.

Tracy Ampah and Osman Karim won mixed doubles title with win over Eunice Minta and Albert Naamu.

Josephine Kamara finished second in the junior divisions, while Natashia Abakah won the girls 14 and under division.

Kimarthy Yirenkyi won the boys 14 and under division, while Caleb Delali Tetteh came in second.

Speaking after the tournament, Club patron Edward Taylor said, the tennis club would not be where it is today without the years of dedication and support of its members.

“This year’s tournament has improved compared to last year’s, the level of skills, talent and intensity has exceeded that of previous years. The players’ unwavering dedication was evident in the fact that some games lasted until 11pm,” Mr. Taylor added.

Jeff Addy, speaking on behalf of the Gold Fields Tennis Club Chairman, stated that, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsors of this year’s tournament and hope that they will join for next year’s tournament.”
