A victim being carried away
A gory accident, which happened on the Tamale-Yendi road, has claimed the lives of eight persons, with several others sustaining various degrees of injury – DAILY GUIDE has gathered.
According to the Yendi crime officer, DSP Michael Happy Addae, the accident occurred on the outskirts of Puriya, a community near Sang, two kilometres from Yendi.
He indicated that a Neoplan bus with registration number GW 2797-F, travelling from Tamale to Yendi, veered off its lane and collided head-on with a Benz bus with registered AS 693-N.
The crash has been attributed to poor visibility, but the police are yet to establish what really caused the accident.
Ambulance services were unavailable in more than half of the districts in the region, including Yendi and Mion – the nearest district capitals where the accident occurred.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that the two drivers died on the spot.
DSP Michael Happy Addae said the bodies of the two drivers and six others, who perished with them, had since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital while those who sustained various injuries were receiving treatment at the Yendi Government Hospital.
