Govt Doles Out GHC50m To WAEC

Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum

In a move to alleviate the financial woes of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the Ministry of Education has released GHC50 million to support the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This timely disbursement is a welcome relief, considering the Council’s struggles with financial constraints in recent years.

In 2022, WAEC faced a significant debt crisis, which threatened to disrupt the exams.

However, the government intervened, promising to settle the debt.

The release of funds reaffirms the government’s commitment to prioritizing education.

“We are dedicated to sustaining an environment that fosters seamless, efficient, and high-quality education for all Ghanaian students,” said Kwasi Kwarteng, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education.

This move is a significant step towards ensuring that the exams proceed without a hitch.

With the financial burden lifted, WAEC can now focus on conducting the exams, and students can concentrate on preparing for their papers without worrying about the exams being canceled or postponed.

The government’s prompt action is a testament to its dedication to education.
