Vice President Bawumia interacting with the chiefs and people of Mirigu
VICE-PRESIDENT Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says the government is working on additional measures and developing policies to make agriculture lucrative for many Ghanaians, especially the youth.
According to the Vice-President, under the watch of President Akufo Addo the agriculture sector had seen a positive growth and attracted many investors who hitherto thought agriculture was for the aged and also yielded very little in terms of revenue.
“Today, many people, including the youth and younger people are seriously involved in various forms of agriculture. People are taking advantage of the many initiatives and supports this government has put in place to help farmers. This is what President Akufo-Addo meant when he promised to make Ghana a better place for us all. A government that is willing to create the enabling environment for individuals and groups to better their lives and communities,” he said.
The Vice-President was speaking at Kanjarga in the Builsa South District in the Upper East Region on the first day of his three-day campaign tour of the region. This is the second time Dr. Bawumia has visited the region in three months.
He said the Builsa South District had shown signs of being one of Ghana’s rice cultivation and processing areas and that the government was committed to investing more into infrastructure and providing technical support to aid rice farmers in the area.
“Government is investing in warehouses, opening up the road network to aid transportation of rice from the field and also be able to store them and also process the rice right here in this district,” he said.
Earlier Dr. Bawumia had visited Sherigu and Mirigu in the Chiana-Paga Constituency and addressed durbars of chiefs and people of these areas.
At Mirigu, a representative of the chiefs in the area commended the government for the many initiatives it had introduced to lessen the burden of Ghanaians, especially rural dwellers and the less endowed.
“…Your good governance and bold decisions by your government, especially the free S.H.S programme, is highly commendable. This programme in particular, has reduced the financial burden on parents and the traditional authorities. My traditional area will always ask for more.”
Dr. Bawumia therefore called on the people of the area to support and vote for the New Patriotic Party, saying “the NDC has nothing to offer, especially when the party has failed to mention and propagate implementable initiatives to help Ghanaians everywhere to develop. They came with SADA; what legacy did they leave behind? What significant benefits can we point to?”
