The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the National Lottery Authority (NLA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing revenue mobilization for national development.

The initiative is in pursuant to Section 5 of the Revenue Administration Act, 2016 (Act 915).

According to sources at NLA, the mutually beneficial initiative is seen as a means of increasing visibility, availability and accessibility of GRA and NLA services across the country through the recently created NLA private sector-led solar-powered E-Kiosk initiatives.

The collaboration is aimed at developing and empowering NABCO recruits to undertake TIN registration exercises as part of the tax base broadening project.

Besides, the collaboration will facilitate the implementation of Voluntary Tax Compliance, especially in the informal sector of the economy.

Under the new deal, the E-Kiosk initiative of the NLA will allow for their joint use for GRA services in the remotest parts of the country. This is a novelty which will inure to the achievements of the objectives of the revenue collection mandate of the GRA as in VAT penetration.

The solar-powered E-Kiosks will be used for the registration of new taxpayers, receipt of completed tax returns and verification of tax clearance certificates. Besides, the collaboration will promote and strengthen the provision of digital services and the overall digitalization of the economy, according to NLA sources.

Since both the GRA and the NLA are mandated by law to mobilize revenue for government, the MoU will provide a new impetus towards the achievement of that goal. Also, it will provide job outlets for the youth and provide oxygen for the President’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda.
