Evelyn Bonham after she was arrested.
THE TEMA Community One branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service are investigating the circumstances under which a 56-year-old woman burnt her grandson with a hot knife for coming home late from church.
The grandmother, Evelyn Bonham, a trader at Community 9 in Tema was said to have put the knife into fire and used it to burn the 9-year-old boy after he was brutally beaten by his mother.
The victim sustained burnt scabs on his face, hand and back after the incident they hid him in a room without giving him proper medical care.
The Police charged Evelyn for causing harm, pending further investigation and possible prosecution.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that instead of sending the injured boy to a health facility for treatment, though she plies her trade around the Tema General Hospital, Evelyn Bonham was said to have resorted to the use of ointment and injectial violet causing the wounds to get infested.
A neighbour who got wind of the incident reportedly alerted the police who went to the rescue of the boy and arrested the grandmother for investigation.
She has admitted the offence in his caution statement to the police, explaining that she did not deliberately cause injury to the boy.
Medical report form has been issued for the boy to attend hospital for examination and treatment. Investigations continue.
