The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) says last Saturday’s power outage that hit major parts of the country was as a result of its power system which experienced disturbances as a result of faulted equipment on the Takoradi-Winneba extension line.
The power generating apologised for any inconvenience caused by the power outage.
Most parts of the country such as Greater Accra, Western, Central Northern and Upper West Regions were without light on the evening of Saturday, May 7, 2022.
The lights went off a few minutes to 8pm but power was restored after some few hours.
GRIDCo in a statement issued late on Sunday to brief its customers on the issue, said all it generating plants except, Kpone Thermal plant and Akosombo were forced to shutdown due to the system disturbances.
“This caused force outages within the coastal corridors of the National Grid which led to power supply interruptions in parts of Greater Accra, Western/Central, Middle and Northern part of Ghana.
“However, Akosombo and Kpone Thermal Plants continued to be in service supplying power. Restoration began immediately and power supply was restored to all bulk power supply points by 23:29h.”
GRIDCo assured its stakeholders of working to ensure stable power supply for the country’s socio-economic development.
