GTDC Board Ready For Akwaaba Hotels

GTDC team inspecting the land

As part of the Ghana Tourism Development Agency’s project to encourage tourists visiting and spending longer days at tourist sites, the management and some staff of the company have inspected a secured land site in the Volta Region.

The members of the board, its chief executive officer and some staff of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) ended the three-day visit to parts of the Volta and Eastern Region of Ghana inspecting proposed land areas and accessing investment viability of some assets of the company.

The team, led by the board chairman, Mr Martin Mireku, included members of the board like Madam Olivia Opoku-Adoma, Mrs Comfort Boohene-Osafo and Mrs Jackie Akufo, Mr Kwadwo Odame Antwi and others.

The land in the Volta Region is expected to be used to build Akwaaba hotels in the region.

The hotels will be built around tourist areas in carefully selected areas to give tourists a place to sleep over to avoid travelling long miles between tourist sites during visits.

As a result, the team also visited the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, a natural habitat for about 1,200 mona monkeys. The group spoke to managers of the facility to see challenges being faced by the tourist site and other ways to develop the site into a standard tourist site for visits.

Speaking at a meeting with some leaders of the Tafi Atome community, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Development Company, Odame Antwi, expressed his appreciation to the people of Tafi Atome for their support in tourism development.

“As custodians of lands, we are happy about your willingness to see the community develop. It is our shared duty to also add value by way of decent accommodation to what we have to create jobs and better livelihood for our people through the building of these facilities,” he added.

Francis Acquaye, a manager at the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, thanked the management and expressed the hope of the agency’s support to the place.
