The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) has officially introduced the four Volunteers for the World Taekwondo Peace Corps (TPC) from Korea to the Ghana Olympic Committee in Accra.

The meeting, held at the GOC boardroom on Friday was to officially inform the mother body of all the Sports federations (GOC) and the purpose of the TPC team in Ghana.

President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Frederick Lartey Otu said  “The TPC team is here to support the GTF to introduce Taekwondo to our basic schools in the Greater Accra Region.

“We have segmented the capital city into three with the first program to be held at Dansoman where we’ll bring together three or four private schools into 1 school and organize Taekwondo clinics for them for about ten days. Areas to be taught are Sparring (Kyorugi), Poomsae and Demonstration.

“Same thing will happen in Adenta and Spintex till they leave on February 15. It is our expectation that after the program, we’ll be able to form Clubs in these schools and train young children to be able to develop the sport.”

“After the TPC program and off course in the same February, through the GOC, the IOC will sponsor a referees’ license course. We’ll then have a seminar for administrators in March and in April, and a national coaching course. So in a brief, the GTF will be very busy from January to April, beginning with the TPC and we’ll need the support of the GOC, other Federations and the media especially.”

Ola Williams, who happens to be the CEO of Dreamland Sports Plus, partners of the School to School Taekwondo campaign and clinics, pointed to his role and mentioned the possibility of visiting another region.

“As a Youth coordinator for GOC, it is my duty to work with all the federations to make sure talents are unearthed. We’ve put so many things in place and we’ll be at St Benedict on Wednesday as they’re celebrating their anniversary. We’re also considering other regions and everything is set.”

1st Vice president of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Paul Atchoe who was full of praise for the president of GTF, pointed out that “This happens to be the third time we’re receiving visitors from Korea to have Taekwondo Programs. If you really want to develop the sports to the highest point, you’ll need the foundation that you can always fall on.

One of the three Taekwondo specialists, Hyein Lee said they will do everything possible to impart the game into the children, expressing their joy for being in Ghana.
