Some of the chiefs at the press conference
Some traditional rulers of Gwira in the Western Region have said they are supporting the government to continue to implement policies and programmes that will impact positively on the lives of their people.
“As chiefs in this traditional area, we don’t do partisan politics so whether you are NPP, CPP or NDC, we don’t care but we will support any government that will bring development to change the living standards of our people,” they indicated.
At a press conference at Gwira Sentum, the Adontenhene of Gwira Traditional Area, Nana Kpolley Akoanah VI, pointed out that the pace of development in the area spearheaded by the government and their Member of Parliament (MP), Catherine Afeku, must be commended.
The chief mentioned the connection of some of the communities in the Gwira area to the national grid and telecommunication network, creation of cocoa districts, construction of community centres, and said the attempts being made for the construction of Gwira roads were commendable.
He mentioned that he recently led some chiefs in the area to Accra to find out when the bitumen surfacing of Aiyinase-Gwira-Wiawso feeder road would commence, adding “we also followed up when Ghana gas would pay some compensation due the traditional rulers.”
“After our journey to Accra, some erroneous impression has been created that we have issues with our paramount chief that was why we did not travel with him,” he said.
He made it clear that as a divisional chief, he had what it took to fight for developmental projects for his people.
“The President, our MP and the Municipal Chief Executive are delivering on their promises made to the people and we as chiefs have to support them to achieve their aims,” he stressed.
