Hajj Dawa C’ttee Meets Imams

The Dawa Committee of the Ghana Hajj Board yesterday engaged various Islamic clerics chosen to undertake the education of pilgrims on the Hajj rituals.

It has been observed that many pilgrims do not understand such rituals, which make the pilgrimage complete, one of the committee members told DAILY GUIDE.

Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed, an Islamic academic and cleric, who heads the committee, discussed modalities for the role of the chosen Imams.

According to Dr. Mohammed, the country has been segmented into two zones, the Northern and Southern, the former encompassing representations from the northern parts of the country and the latter from Kumasi to the Accra area.

“After engaging with those from the South which is what we are doing now we would turn our attention to the North for a similar exercise,” he said.

A prominent Tamale Islamic educationist and evangelist Hajia Alolo, who is a member of the committee, was present for yesterday’s meeting at the Hajj Village.

The engagement was described as successful and morale boosting for the participants.

Members were apprised with the 2017 Hajj Policies, which include the expectation of the President and the Muslim population in the country.

“The success or otherwise of this year’s Hajj depends to a large extent on the measures and policies that we put in place to ensure a smooth and incident-free Hajj. We cannot, as members of the Hajj Board, afford to fail the country, the Muslim Ummah and the President of the Republic, who amongst the numerous humans resource available to him, decided to put trust in us by honouring and appointing us as his representatives to steer the affairs of this year’s Hajj. We must therefore see it as a privilege to serve our people and justify the trust that the President has reposed in us,” the committee were earlier charged.

The guidelines for the clerics include the organization and assembling of pilgrims in all the regions for sensitization and education.

Members of the Dawa Committee are Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed, Chairman, Sheikh Mohammed Quaye, Sheikh Dr. Amin Bonsu, Salih Abubakar, Abdul Kadir Saeed Napari and Hajia Mariam Alolo.
