The Ghana Metrological Agency (GMA) has disclosed that the dry and dusty weather conditions that have been produced as a result of the Harmattan season is expected to continue in varying intensities over the next few days.
This information comes after meteorological satellites detected dust lifted around Chad, Sudan, and Niger on February 15, 2023 after the Agency observed high-pressure systems around the northern regions of Africa, stirring up dust over the source region.
The GMA in a release said dust has been transported into the country by strong winds at lower levels of the atmosphere therefore resulting in the current intensification of harmattan conditions which are expected to continue over the next number of days.
“Relative humidity, over this period, was also seen to range between 15 per cent and 50 per cent with visibility range around 200 meters to 5,000 meters,” it stated.
These conditions, however, are expected to decrease in intensity during the week and consequent days.
The GMA therefore advised the public to follow fire safety precautions, cover foods and water to prevent dust from settling on them.
Also people allergic to dust have been advised to wear nose masks to reduce irritation on their respiratory systems.
