A US-based child education charity, Henry & Linda Incorporated, has donated $10,000 to the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
Founder of the Henry & Linda Foundation, Theophilus Sai, said the donation is to support the foundation to stage its annual flagship football event, the Baby Jet U-16 tournament in April this year.
At the presentation ceremony last Friday in Accra, Sai said the gesture was part of efforts to improve the lives of Ghanaian children and young adults.
He told the media, “We want to support them with education, mental health, security, we want them to advance professionally in whatever career they choose, it could be sports, medicine or engineering.”
He pointed out that the charity named after two Ghanaian children who lost their lives in Cuba had also concluded a partnership with the Asamoah Gyan Foundation to be in charge of providing career guidance to participants during the Baby Jet U-16 tournament.
The founder of the tournament and former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, expressed thanks to the leadership and members of the charity.
Gyan gave assurance that the funds will be utilised to develop the next generation of sportsmen for the country.
He said, “The tournament is something that we are doing to safeguard the future of Ghana football. As a footballer this is what I can do to support this country.”Gyan’s manager, Samuel Anim Addo, also mentioned that the tournament was scheduled for the first week of April and would be hosted at three venues namely; Accra Academy, McDan La Town Park and the Madina Astroturf Park.
