Team Dogboe
Ghana’s boxing new kid on the block (WBO Super Bantamweight champion) Isaac Dogboe has said in plain words that becoming a global icon remains his top most priority.
The skilful boxer on Sunday morning snatched the WBO Super Batamweight title from Jessie Magdaleno in the United States of America and has promised to unify the division.
He described the feat as long road; and attributed the success story to collective efforts from all.
To the young boxer, (23), who has demonstrated brilliance in all engagements with his opponents before the big bout, indicated, he is waiting for his father cum trainer’s prophesy that his (Dogboe) real strength is yet to manifest.
He said in an interview “I knew it was going to be a knockout victory. It’s been a long road. I went down for the first time. It’s a learning experience. I kept getting stronger by the rounds.”
Responding to how far he wants to travel with his father and trainer, Paul Dogboe, he said “My father says he wants to retire as my trainer. I want to become a global icon. I couldn’t have done it without the support of all.”
Dogboe, nicknamed the ‘Royal Storm’ added “I want to unify the division, my father keeps saying my real strength is yet to come, so I’m waiting for that time. The first knockdown was a flash. My father told me to relax, and getting to the latter round I heard him say he (Magdaleno) was ready to go down.”
Team Dogboe was met on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport last night by a high powered delegation from the National Sports Authority (NSA), Youth and Sports, and some supporters groups.
