Dr. Bawumia paying homage to Otumfuo
Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has declared that he will make himself available to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whenever the King calls.
Dr. Bawumia, who is also the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections, said he adores and respects the Asante Monarch.
The Vice President, referring to the Asantehene as his father, stated that Otumfuo has played key roles in the transformation of his political career thus far, for which he is grateful.
He, therefore, disclosed that continuing to subordinate himself to the Asantehene is a step in the right direction.
“I’m here at the Manhyia Palace today to take part in the last Akwasidae festival of the year and also offer my heartfelt and sincere thanks to my own father, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” he told a crowd in Kumasi.
“His Royal Highness, the Asantehene, has played an important and invaluable role in shaping my political career and also helping me to reach my current status in politics, and I’m grateful.
“Before the NPP presidential election, I came here and sought the King’s spiritual and physical support to enable me to win the polls and victory to our side after the party elections.
“I’m here today to offer my thanks and appreciation to my father (Otumfuo) for his wise counsel and support, which helped me to achieve the victory,” he explained.
Dr. Bawumia also asked the Asantehene to continue to provide him with wise counsel and assistance as he leads the ruling NPP into the 2024 elections.
According to him, he is confident that with the Asantehene’s wise counsel and guidance, his aspiration of becoming Ghana’s next president will become a reality.
The NPP flagbearer was accompanied to the Manhyia Palace by some of the party’s bigwigs, including the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, and Manhyia South MP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
Also with the Vice President were his wife, Samira Bawumia, Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, other NPP Members of Parliament, and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
