The Pra River and some of the canoes used for crossing it
A 21-year-old alleged illegal miner, identified as Wofa Jonathan, has drowned in the Pra River at Twifo Kotokye, in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.
Jonathan, a well-known resident of Twifo Pewodie, was alleged to be engaged in illegal mining activities at Twifo Kotokye.
Information gathered indicated that Jonathan was sent to buy diesel for the illegal mining activities, and he went by canoe.
“So when he was returning, the canoe reportedly hit a rock in the river, and caused it to capsize,” some eyewitnesses narrated.
The body was later retrieved from the river, and has been taken to a hospital’s mortuary.
The police were later informed, with investigation into the incident underway.
Some residents claimed that there had been series of similar incidents on the Pra River in recent times, and have stressed the need to put in place safety measures for crossing the river.
