Dr. Kwabena Duffuor handing over the nomination forms to NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey
Former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor says he is Ghanaians’ hope as the one with the magic wand to transform the country’s economy and make things better.
Speaking to reporters after submitting his nomination forms and other electoral documents to run for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer position on May 13, 2023, he stated that the next NDC government led by him would restore hope and national pride.
The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana will come face-to-face with former President John Dramani Mahama and two others for the flagbearership contest.
He thanked the throngs of NDC supporters who flocked the party’s headquarters to show their loyalty to him.
“l thank all of you the members and supporters of the NDC family who travelled from far and near in Accra to join me in this exercise. I am very grateful to all of you,” he stressed.
“For the past month, I have been telling the grassroots members of the NDC that the power belongs to you,” he said, adding that the time had come for them to exercise their power and vote for change in their lives.
“My brother and sisters, we know what are going on in this country. We know that you are going through sufferings and hardships. There are no jobs for the teeming youth and people in the country, you don’t have jobs to do, that is why the NDC is coming back to save the lives of the people,” Dr. Duffuor asserted.
According to him, the NDC, led by late President Atta Mills, was able to transform Ghana, and he had come to continue that good work.
He predicted that the NDC would return in 2025 and urged citizens not to travel abroad in search of greener pastures, claiming that there would be enough jobs for everyone.
“Let us get together to win the election in 2024 and rebuild Ghana,” the presidential candidate said, calling for peace and unity within the NDC.
The economist insisted that there is still hope for Ghana because there are clear indications that the NDC will win power, adding that the party is capable of running the country and generating revenue internally.
Dr. Duffuor stated that young men and women working for the NDC in various constituency offices would be given allowances if the NDC wins the 2024 general election.
He also assured NDC cadres that the party would come to power and create pension schemes for them, adding that they would be adequately rewarded when the NDC comes to power in 2025.
