Residential developer, Indigo Homes, in collaboration with the National blood Service (NBS) has organized a blood donation drive to shore up the blood stock at the NBS.

The event, which took place at the Oyarifa Park, aimed at addressing the country’s need for an increased supply of safe blood as well as create awareness of blood donation activities within the country.

The event, which was guided by the 2023 World Blood Donation Day themed, “Give Blood, Give Plasma, Share Life, Share Often,’ saw employees of the company as well as home owners and members of the community donate blood to aid the cause.

Senior Manager for Marketing and Communication at Indigo Homes, Sandra Mudzimba highlighted the importance of giving blood as it can go a long way to save lives.

“The blood service of Ghana gave some figures and said that they need about 3,000,000 volunteers a year to give blood and we are not anywhere close. And we also have to think that any point in time we may be on the other end where we or our loved ones may need blood so more people need to be involved in blood donations because they are helpful and safe,” she shared.

Representative of NBS, Joyce Oppong Adu, highlighted the benefits of blood donations to donors.

“As much as blood donation saves lives, it is also good for the donor as well because when a donor comes, they undergo a free health screening to make sure the donor is safe. We also check hemoglobin levels as well. And one gets contentment from donating blood because it is a noble service and it may reduce the risk of one getting some cancers and heart disease so it’s really good for your health,” she said.
