Roey Gilad
The Ambassador of Israel to Ghana, Mr. Roey Gilad, has commended Ghana for its proactive and strategic role in addressing the growing threat of terrorism in West Africa.
Speaking at a press briefing held last Friday in Accra, Mr. Gilad noted with concern the increasing adoption of radical Islamist ideologies by certain groups within the sub-region, describing the trend as a major security challenge that requires sustained vigilance and regional cooperation.
The Israeli envoy drew parallels between the security environments of Ghana and Israel, pointing out that both countries are democratic states operating within regions affected by instability.
According to him, this shared reality underscores the importance of strong institutions, intelligence cooperation, and democratic resilience in confronting security threats. Mr. Gilad further praised Ghana for its principled stance on international human rights issues, particularly its recent vote in favour of a United Nations Human Rights Council resolution condemning Iran’s violent repression of demonstrations in recent weeks.
He described the vote as a clear demonstration of Ghana’s commitment to the protection of fundamental human rights and democratic values. The Ambassador reaffirmed Israel’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Ghana, especially in areas related to security, counter-terrorism, and the promotion of democratic governance, noting that collaboration among like-minded nations remains essential in tackling shared global challenges.
