Idris Elba
Idris Elba has registered his displeasure with conspiracy theories that alleged ‘black people cannot be infected with coronavirus.’
He says they are “stupid and ridiculous” and has made this known in a statement a day after he announced that he had tested positive for the virus.
“There are so many stupid, ridiculous conspiracy theories about black people not being able to get it… That is the quickest way to get more black people killed,” he said on Tuesday.
The British actor of Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian descent was giving update on his status on Twitter when he made the comment.
“Please understand that you can get it, all right. Stop sending out these stupid WhatsApp messages about black people not getting it. That’s ridiculous. You’re making us all look stupid. Just know you have to be as vigilant as every other race. This disease does not discriminate,” he added.
According to him, he needed to speak out against the “weird myth” because he is “a black person who has contracted the virus.”
“Stop sending that s–t out — it’s dumb, silly, and it’s going to get more people sick. People need to know facts, need to understand the truth, so they can protect themselves.”
Talking about his status, Elba said it was a good decision he and his wife came out about his status.
“I am feeling OK,” he told his followers, adding that he checks for fever twice each day.
