THE MEMBER of Parliament for Tema East has distanced himself from the prosecution and detention of the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), over financial malfeasance during his tenure as Mayor of Tema.
According to the MP who doubles as Deputy Minister of Transport, he has no hand in the case which is currently in the law court.
In a statement, he says “The office of the MP for the Tema East Constituency has been drawn to some allegations made by the Tema East Constituency NDC with regards to the arrest of their Parliamentary Candidate.
“The case being referred to is between their candidate versus the Republic with respect to some funds alleged to have been misappropriated during his tenure as Mayor of Tema. The investigation was carried out by EOCO and sent to the office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Ghana.
“All issues with respect to his alleged criminality would be out of place to associate it with the office of the Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Tema East, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover. The bail conditions are at the discretion of the honourable court of the Republic of Ghana which has nothing to do with our Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Transport.”
The Tema East Constituency NDC candidate and four others are facing trial on corruption related charges during his term as the Mayor.
A bail of GHC10 million with two sureties, one to be justified have been posted by a High Court in Accra where the candidate is standing trial.
