The Jubilee Partners, operators of the Jubilee Field in the Western Region, are supporting science education to provide technical expertise for the oil and gas industry.
To this end, the partners have inaugurated a refurbished science laboratory at the Archbishop Porter Girls’ Senior High School (SHS) in Takoradi to help improve the performance of students in science and develop their interest towards its study.
The laboratory was refurbished by the Jubilee Partners- Tullow Oil, Kosmos Energy, Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC), Anadarko and Petro SA, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Trust fund (GETFund).
The Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories were also fitted with furniture and equipment to help improve the teaching and learning of science in the school.
The Jubilee partners indicated that the gesture was in line with their social investment programmes that focus on three key areas, including health, water and sanitation; livelihood and enterprise development; and education and training.
The partners have provided scholarships, sponsored science and oil and gas quiz and refurbished science laboratories at the second cycle level to help support science education in the country.
At a ceremony to commission the refurbished science laboratory at Archbishop Porter Girls’ school, Kwasi Amponsah Boateng, Social Performance and Public Affairs Officer of Tullow Oil, explained that the initiative was to help improve science centres in Senior High Schools and also encourage the teaching and learning of the subject.

He was of the view that the refurbished facility would increase the number of students offering science subjects in the school.
“The project is expected to whip up interest of students in the science subjects and subsequently pursue its related programmes at the tertiary levels,” he added.                                                                 Headmistress of Archbishop Porter Girls Senior School Mary Brako, said the refurbished center would contribute immensely to the study of science in the school.
“The facility is expected to make the study of science more convenient for the students by offering a suitable environment for them to undertake their studies.”
George Sarpong, Director, Corporate Affairs of KOSMOS Energy, on his part, pointed out that the Jubilee partners were committed to supporting and helping educational institutions upgrade their science facilities.
“The Archbishop Porter Girls project is the second of such initiatives to be delivered by the partners. The first was the Mfantsipim Senior High School science laboratory, which was commissioned in August, this year,” he revealed.
He also indicated that the science laboratory of Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School in the Ellembelle District of the Western region was under renovation and was expected to be completed and presented in October, this year.
