Karim Zito Leaves Asante Kotoko Proud After Trophy

Abdul-Karim Zito

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says he is leaving the club with a deep sense of pride and fulfillment after stepping down from his role, describing his time with the Porcupine Warriors as both successful and rewarding.

Zito confirmed that his resignation followed discussions with the club’s management but stressed that the decision does not diminish his achievements or emotional connection to the Kumasi-based side.

The veteran trainer said he walks away satisfied with his contribution and confident that his status at the club remains strong.

He noted that although his tenure has come to an end, he considers himself firmly part of Kotoko’s history. Zito emphasised that he leaves in good spirits and with a legacy he believes supporters will remember.

Appointed last year, Zito managed 37 competitive matches during his stint, registering 19 victories, 11 draws, and 7 losses.

His team showed defensive solidity, recording 19 clean sheets and conceding 31 goals, while scoring 50 times going forward.

His period in charge was marked by notable success, highlighted by four trophy wins — the MTN FA Cup, Super Cup, Toyota Cup in South Africa, and the President’s Cup — making his short reign one of the club’s most productive in recent years.

Zito also expressed gratitude to the Kotoko fan base for their consistent encouragement and loyalty throughout his time on the touchline. He acknowledged their role in the team’s achievements and thanked them for standing behind him and the players.

His exit closes a significant chapter for Asante Kotoko, defined by silverware, structure, and strong results.
