Karpowership Engages Communities

KARPOWERSHIP GHANA Company Limited has begun preparation works for the relocation of the 470MW Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan from Tema in the Greater Accra Region to Sekondi Naval Base in the Western Region.

The relocation which is expected to take place by the second quarter of the year, forms part of government’s plans to enable the floating power generating plant get easy access to cheaper and reliable fuel source.

Miss Sandra Amarquaye, the Corporate Communications Specialist of Karpowership Ghana, said the power company has held a series of stakeholder meetings with various community groups within the Sekondi and Takoradi Municipality.

Giving the aim of the engagement, she stated that the sessions were to sensitize stakeholders in the areas of the Karpowership’s operations and its contribution to communities which was in line with Karpowership’s principle of having a transparent, trustworthy and sustainable relationship with its stakeholders.

She said “Karpowership will deploy its 470MW Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan to the Sekondi Naval Base by the second half of this year. This is in line with government’s plans to ensure full utilization of gas resources from the Western enclave of Ghana.

Miss. Amarquaye reiterated that Karpowership is committed to Ghana’s development and will continue to provide all Ghanaians reliable, sustainable, and affordable electricity in the country.

Karpowership Ghana interacted with bodies such as the Sekondi and Essikado Traditional Councils, the Inshore Fishing Association, Fish Traders and Processors Association, Fishmongers and the media.

Responding during the engagement, the Acting President of the Sekondi House of Chiefs, Nana Kwesi Badu II extolled Karpowership for the steps they are taking to sustain power supply in the country.

For his part, Mr. Francis Eshuw, Chairman of the Inshore Fishing Association expressed the group’s excitement about the benefits they hope to derive from the availability of the powership in their territory.

The company since its operation has undertaken major projects as part of its corporate social responsibilities including providing a bursary for brilliant but needy students, among others.
