KATH Gets GH¢5.4m New Oxygen Plant

Dr. Oheneba Danso

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi is set to benefit from a GH¢5.4 million brand new oxygen plant facility soon to boost healthcare delivery at the place.

The hospital has already purchased the facility, which is in two sets, from the United States of America (USA) and it was supposed to be shipped into the country by the end of December 2018.

KATH is expected to use its internally generated funds (IGF) to pay for the GH¢5.4 million worth oxygen plant within three years, starting from when the plant would be operational.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Dr. Oheneba Danso, has expressed delight about the oxygen plant, stating that it would help promote healthcare delivery in the hospital.

He said the hospital has been using most of its funds to buy oxygen from private sources on a daily basis in order to attend to the needs of patients, a development which drained KATH’s coffers.

Management, Dr. Danso revealed, saw the need to purchase a permanent oxygen plant facility so as to save the hospital from wasting a lot of money to buy oxygen from private companies.

According to him, the ultra-modern oxygen plant would be fully installed at KATH by the middle of February 2019, and it is expected to become operational soon afterwards.

On his part, Mr. Kwame Frimpong, KATH’s PRO, disclosed that the hospital had to spend GH¢12,000 to buy oxygen from outside sources to treat patients on a daily basis, which was not the best.

He, therefore, commended KATH management and the board for having the vision to purchase a brand new oxygen plant to attend to patients, adding that the facility would save KATH’s purse.
