Kempes Is The Worst MCE Ever In Tema

The Tema Traditional Council (TTC) has described Robert Kempes Ofosuware as the worst Chief Executive of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in its history.

According to the council, Mr Ofosuware cannot pinpoint a particular project that he executed to develop Tema.

The Council further stated that Tema did not see any development under the tenure of Mr. Kempes because he was not an indigene.

Mr. Kempes is not an indigene of Tema and following his woeful performance between 2009 and 2012, we, the TTC, would not give audience to any non-indigene that would be nominated to succeed Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the immediate past MCE, it stated.

The Development Control Chairman of the TTC, Joseph A. Larteh, made the disclosure when the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, paid a courtesy call on the Traditional Council where he presented 10 crates of beer, 10 crates of non-alcoholic beverages, 10 cartons of mineral water, two cartons of foreign wines, and an unspecified amount of money to support the celebration of the forthcoming ‘Kpelejo’ festival in Tema on behalf of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

Mr. Larteh said Hon. Odamtten, the immediate past MCE set a benchmark through the construction of drains, two schools and other projects, which benefited the people of Tema, adding that Mr. Ofosuware failed awfully to develop the area.

According to him, the call for an indigene of Tema as MCE has to do with getting someone who has been in Tema and therefore can identify with their plight and act accordingly rather than a stranger who has no idea about the plight of the people of Tema.

Mr. Larteh pleaded with President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to appoint an indigene as the next Chief Executive of TMA.

“We, the Traditional Council, cannot work with anyone who would be appointed as MCE contrary to our suggestions, that is why we, the traditional council, have nominated Mr. Benjamin Ashitey as our next MCE of Tema,” he asserted.

Hon. Ishmael Ashitey assured members of the Council that he would forward their petition to President for the necessary action to be taken.
