Kofi Adu Domfeh
KOFI ADU Domfeh of Multimedia Group in Kumasi, is the new Ashanti Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Chairman, having won a closely contested election with a single vote margin.
He polled 16 out of the 31 eligible ballots cast, closely followed by his only competitor in the race, Georgina Ankomah of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in the Ashanti Region.
With his victory, Kofi Adu Domfeh would replace Kingsley Hope of Ghanaian Times, the immediate past Ashanti Regional GJA Chairman, who didn’t contest for the position again after many years of service.
The peaceful election was supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Kumasi. Both contestants were looking jittery after the ballots were sorted, since it looked almost the same.
Eventually after the counting, Kofi Adu Domfeh was adjudged the winner of the closely contested race with just a single vote separating him from his main competitor. Supporters of the winner were seen in wild jubilations.
In his victory speech, Mr. Domfeh called for support from his colleague journalists to help raise the standards and respect that is due members of the noble profession in the Ashanti Region.
According to him, he is humbled by the victory, and assured that he would work assiduously to ensure the welfare of journalists in the region are improved, adding that he was grateful to journalists for voting for him.
Other elected GJA officials in the region on the day are Beatrice Spio Gabbrah of Media General, General Secretary; Nicholas Osei-Wusu of GBC, Vice Chairperson; and Dr. Neta Kris Abiana Pasram, Treasurer.
