Fabio Gama won the penalty for Kotoko. INSET: Prosper Ogum
Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, says his charges demonstrated brilliance to show they are indeed on top of the league log when they crossed swords with Hearts on Sunday.
Notwithstanding the fine display, the Porcupine Warriors managed just a 1-0 win over their rivals, despite creating many scoring chances.
The win, from the spot; which has generated heated debate among fans, drew Kotoko inches near to the league crown.
He said after the game “…very satisfied because we played very well, we created a lot of chances, we kept the ball most of the time in the game.
“And we showed that indeed, we are on top of the league.
“We were in a haste to score; we created more chances, more obvious goal scoring opportunities.
“Chances that you just need to poke the ball into the net, but they couldn’t.”
He added, “But in high profile games like this, sometimes players lose their awareness in front of goal, and some of these things happen.
“But I’m happy that we dominated play, and we created more goal scoring opportunities.”
Frank Mbella scored from the spot in the first half.
The win hands Kotoko a 16-point lead on the league table against champions Hearts of Oak.
