Reigning FA Cup champions Asante Kotoko has stormed MTN Ridge head office on Monday.
Three players-Deputy skipper Eric Donkoh, Owusu Jackson and Ahmed Adams, two officials-Godwin Ablordey and Thomas Boakye Agyeman as well as MTN FA Cup chairman, Kurt ES Okraku and Prosper Harrison Addo made the official visit.
The call was to present two mementos (FA Cup and the President’s Cup) the Porcupine Warriors lifted after defeating their perennial rivals-Hearts of Oak in separate encounters to executives of MTN.
Boakye Agyemang, who led the delegation said “MTN believes in working with champions and I believe that is the reason why they have been working with Asante Kotoko
“With Asante Kotoko, we know MTN found in us a better, bigger partner who they are going to stay with for a long time because we’ll also do them proud as they have been doing for us.”
Kurt Okraku praised the telecommunication company for rallying behind the competition which attracts 112 combatants since 2010 and produced champions in Nania FC, New Edubiase, Medeama, Bechem United and Kotoko.
He commended MTN for their unflinching support for the FA in the last nine years, describing it as a marriage that is turbulent free, and given birth to many national champions.
Acting CEO of MTN, Modupe Kadri mentioned that, “This gathering brings memories of a journey you embarked on some months ago, which you became eventual winners; it also throws more light on our association with Kotoko and the competition. Our dream was to see exciting games played; and we witnessed that.
“This is the second time Kotoko has won it under our sponsorship. Currently MTN is undertaking an enhancement of Kotoko’s training pitch. We wish you well in your preparation for the forthcoming CAF Confederations Cup.”
Kotoko also presented the team’s replica jersey to management of MTN.
Kotoko handed Hearts an emphatic 3-1 defeat in the final at Tamale with Sadick Adams recording a first half hat-trick before skipper Thomas Abbey pulled one back after the break with a splendid header.
