Leave Us Alone And Do Your Business – Asiedu Nketia Tells Konadu

Asiedu Nketia and Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings

General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress, Asiedu Nketiah has lashed out at former first lady for suggesting that the party has deviated from its core values.

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings during an interview with Joy News’ Francis Abban said she exited the party she helped her husband, Jerry John Rawlings build because some persons had come to take over the party and have deviated from its core values.

She said the current leadership of the party has gone against what the party really stands for.

“We built the party based on the ideologies of my husband to take ourselves from the quagmire of poverty into prosperity and then reduce corruption and stealing and unnecessary bickering in the country.

“It is the people who activate and actualize objectives so if the people do not believe in the objectives then it is not going to happen,” she added.

But in a response to the former first lady, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said they will pay no attention to her.

“There are millions and millions of other people who think the NDC is on course and have stayed. Let her do her business and let us do our business.”

He said they will not concentrate on mending their differences with the former first lady but rather look to increase the membership base of the party.

He believes that in a political establishment like any other, people continue to leave and others come on board, so the loss of the former first lady takes nothing away from the party.

“It is only in the bible where they said that when you have 100 sheep and you lose one, leave the 99 and go chasing the single sheep. In politics you don’t need 99, you need 51.

“There is no difference between the vote of a king and the vote of a messenger so at the end of the day it is all about votes…numbers,” he added.

The NDC, he said will not “focus too much on one king or one doctor when you can easily capture 100 ‘kayaye’ [head porters] to vote for you.”
