THE MINISTER for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, has admonished the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) and the National Biosafety Authority to join hands in building ‘a strong institutional culture’ that would set them apart among other state institutions in the country.
According to him, a nation can only be well developed with a strong institutional culture.
He made these pronouncements when he visited the NRA and the National Biosafety Authority on Tuesday to familiarise himself with operations there, and outlined his vision for the organisation.
“I believe that institutions should be built. The way to build a nation is to build strong institutions. I’m here to make sure that these institutions have a legacy that will actually elevate them and not the individuals therein,” he said.
“We have a country to build and we must contribute our quota to ensure that this country called Ghana is built,” he went on.
Culture of Excellence
Dr. Afriyie implored the staff of the NRA to strive to build a culture of excellence, especially as it concerns the issue of corruption, saying “I urge you to build a culture – a culture of excellence. That’s how to build a country. That’s the good you can do for your country, Ghana.
“My generation has done its best. But there are also other things that we haven’t done well, especially corruption. My generation has failed in tackling corruption in all spectrums, but you should be a generation of sacrifice.”
Appeal
The minister went on to seek the support and cooperation of the staff and management of NRA “to help him carry out his mandate,” adding “It is people who make ministers. All of you, I need your help. I need your help to succeed. I am here to build institutions.”
