The Mayor of Cape Coast and his team inspecting the dustbins
The Mayor of Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur, has implored residents to join forces to combat filth and sanitation challenges in the metropolis.
Mr. Arthur disclosed that sanitation is one of the biggest threats to public health, tourism, and the image of the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast. He stressed that the Assembly alone cannot win this battle without the collective efforts of various stakeholders.
The Cape Coast Mayor made these remarks when he received 50 dustbins donated by Prophet Emmanuel Abeiku Aggrey, the General Overseer of Molders Chapel International and Dean of Development, Sanitation and Tourism Ambassadors of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA). The donation was made on behalf of Prophet Abeiku Aggrey by Pastor Emmanuel Hammond.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor noted, “If we want Cape Coast to be a safe haven for residents, tourists, and investors, then sanitation must be everybody’s responsibility. The Assembly cannot do it alone.
“Churches, indigenes, schools, market women, transport operators, and institutions must all join hands with us,” he appealed to stakeholders to support the fight against filth.
Mr. Arthur further extended his utmost appreciation to Prophet Emmanuel Abeiku Aggrey for fulfilling the promise he made to the Assembly upon assuming his new role as Dean of Cape Coast Development, Tourism and Sanitation Ambassadors. He emphasised the importance of proper waste management in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
He pledged the Assembly’s commitment to working with other stakeholders to ensure effective waste management in the historic city, reiterating his resolve to put the dustbins to use in areas where they are most needed.
“Our vision is to make Cape Coast the cleanest city ever. Upon assuming office, we appointed Development, Sanitation and Tourism Ambassadors, and on the day of the inauguration, Prophet Abeiku Aggrey promised to give the Assembly 50 dustbins. We thank him for honouring that promise.
“I will appeal to other well-meaning individuals and organisations to follow suit and help us fight sanitation challenges in Cape Coast. These dustbins will be put to effective use,” the Mayor added.
Pastor Emmanuel Hammond, who donated the dustbins on behalf of his boss, said, “Prophet Abeiku Aggrey donated these dustbins because he wants to contribute to the beautification of Cape Coast. He is someone who admires beauty.” He also urged residents and the Assembly to maintain the quality of the dustbins so they can serve their purpose.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Jonas Julibone, the Cape Coast Director of Waste Management, admonished all well-wishers to emulate the gesture of Prophet Aggrey.
The donation is expected to boost the Assembly’s sanitation efforts, as cleanliness remains a priority.
This corporate social responsibility initiative is aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and sustainability. He urged residents to take ownership of their environment and properly dispose of waste in the provided dustbins.
The Assembly has been working to improve waste management in the city, and this donation is seen as a significant step toward achieving that goal.
