Paul Amaning
Paul Amaning, Managing Director of PMKF Ghana Ltd, has declared his intention to contest for the Eastern Regional chairmanship position of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The 37-year-old businessman said he believes in human development and pledged to make the NPP more attractive in the region if given the nod.
“I will commit myself to the task of getting the majority of our youth jobs. I am an entrepreneur. I know how to nurture entrepreneurs and I will do so to create more job opportunities for our teeming youth who sacrificed for the party’s victory in 2016,” he said.
He noted that the region is the second stronghold of the NPP in the country.
“Mr Amaning, who declared his political ambition at news conference in Koforidua, said in order to make the party impregnable in the region, the youth would have to be at the forefront of the region’s political activities.
He said that every member of the NPP played a role in the victory of the party in 2016 and would make ensure the same enthusiasm is maintained to retain power in 2020.
He said “the members who suffered for the party to win the 2016 general elections must be commended for their sacrifices. They worked hard and deserve to be treated well to motivate other youth to take up the challenge to work relentlessly for the party come 2020.
“God indeed chose President Akufo-Addo for Ghana to help build the country better. Therefore we have to get new leadership to also support his ambition,” he added.
He said “the NPP is a unique party and I am ready to serve. I will make sacrifices to ensure the party grows for future generation. I will make the region a no go area for the opposition National Democratic Congress.
“If Mr Amaning becomes successful during the vetting, he will challenge the incumbent regional chairman and former NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Kiston Akomeng Kissi.
In the previous election, the incumbent regional chairman, Mr Kissi secured 361 votes to beat the then incumbent chairman and current CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, Dr Samuel Annor who polled 229 votes.
