THE NATIONAL Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) has marked this year’s International Women’s Day with a call on women entrepreneurs to leverage on technology to stay competitive amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a message to mark the celebration, Executive Director on NBSSI, Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, indicated that technology had been crucial to speeding the global agenda of gender equality, hence should be regarded by women entrepreneurs as an ally for business growth.
“COVID-19 has taught us that resilience is the new progress and that digitalisation is the new resilience for every business, which desires to survive during this pandemic,” she said in a statement.
Mrs. Yankey-Ayeh noted that tools such as mobile phones, tablets and cloud-based services could be used to scale up and help women-owned/led businesses to extend their business operations across the globe, especially at a time when the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) was being implemented.
She reiterated NBSSI’s continuous support towards the development and sustainable growth of the micro, small and medium-scale enterprises (MSME)sector in Ghana.
Each year, the International Women’s Day (IWD) is commemorated on March 8 to celebrate the achievement of women and to call for a coordinated and concerted effort to promote gender balance and equality.
The occasion is also used to highlight the political, social, economic and cultural issues faced by women and to advocate the progress of women in all spheres of life.
The theme of this year’s celebration was “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”.
In tandem with the year’s theme, NBSSI is organizing a virtual seminar and master class on topics such as governance and leadership, risk management and digitalization among others, which are all crucial for the survival and growth of every business in the COVID-19 era.
