The Lordina Foundation has facilitated the construction of an ultramodern Community Information Centre (ICT) for the Kintampo community and its environs at Ampoma, in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The state-of-the-art facility, equipped with the latest technology is expected to serve as an ICT Hub for the community and afford schools in the area access to internet facilities.

The centre, built by Huawei Technologies Ghana Ltd as part of their corporate social responsibility, is to provide ICT skills training for the youth of the community. The centre has a 20-seater capacity, a reception area, manager’s office and one other room for training purposes.

Commissioning the centre, the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama said the centre will help bridge the digital gap in the country as ICT was not just for urban residents.

According to her technology was evolving at a very fast pace, and with its continuous self-integration into various facets of daily lives, it was vital that the youth are not left behind.

She said recognizing the importance of the nation’s economic development through ICT, the Ministry of Communications, is building similar ICT centres in all districts throughout the country and the government, through the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), has equipped all the ICT laboratories of the recently commissioned Community Day Schools.

Mrs Mahama said government is also constructing a Business Process Outsourcing Centre near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange to create more than10,000 direct and indirect jobs for the youth.

“Government will always welcome the support of all development partners and our various stakeholders to join us as we embark on this journey, which we believe will be a major contributor to the growth of our economy, and the creation of more employment opportunities for our youth”, she said.

“At this juncture, I wish to commend Huawei, also a partner in the on-going e-Government Capacity Building implementation.”

The First Lady entreated the people to ensure regular maintenance of the facilities.
