MoMoMo, a new pay per view video platform to promote African films, will soon go live with a new Ghanaian film titled ‘Lucky’.
This will grant cinema and film enthusiasts the opportunity to go to the cinema through their phones by watching the film on the pay per view platform.
‘Lucky’, written by Joewackle J Kusi, is one of the award-winning films to open the platform with.
Directed by Togbe Gavua and produced by Abstrakte, it stars Kabuki Akiwumi and Kumi Obuobisa. It is a story of a millennial male who has landed a date with a popular girl from social media.
The narrative approach in this film speaks volumes about the forms of communication and influences that exist among young people today in a world shaped by social media.
For fans of the Ghanaian 2000s TV shows, ‘Things We Do For Love’ and ‘Suncity’, this film will be a refreshing merger.
It packs the same wit, humour and relatability of being a young person in Ghana’s capital and is a necessary contribution to African stories and storytelling.
In his statement, the writer and director of ‘Lucky’ stated, “We have become so accustomed to a world without African stories or perspectives that telling a story that humanizes Africans is revolutionary.”
“In today’s world, inclusive and intersectional storytelling is necessary to the fabric of our humanity because it contributes to a better understanding of one another which is why telling African stories matters and this is where MoMoMo comes in,” he added.
MoMoMo is a transactional video on demand/pay-per view video platform for high quality movies.
The platform will provide all African diaspora film, TV and digital content producers and distributors the ability to generate direct transactional revenue for their content.
The platform also allows them to introduce their latest African content trends to global audiences, a much needed answer to America’s Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and a plethora of subscription-based video on demand service platforms which seem to be dominating the world.
