Nominations for 2018 edition of the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) are out and Ghana is well represented

Ghana has bagged some cool nominations aside other countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Malawi, Gabon, Kenya, Burundi, among others.

Lydia Forson, Chris Attoh, Joselyn Dumas, Peter Kofi Sedufia, Nana Ama McBrown and Sika Osei are among Ghanaian filmmakers who got nominated.

Lydia Forson, Nana Ama McBrown and Sika Osei had a tied nomination for AMAA best actress category for their role in the movie, ‘Sidechic Gang’.

Sika also got nominated for AMAA best supporting actress category for her role in the movie, ‘In Line’.

Joselyn is equally competing in the AMAA best actress category with the movie, ‘Potato Potahto’.

The director of ‘Sidechic Gang’, Peter Kofi Sedufia, also got nominated for AMAA best director, while Chris Attoh also got a nod in AMAA best actor category.

‘Sidechic Gang’ and ‘Potato Potahto’ also got other nominations in other categories. ‘Untitled’ from Ghana is also up for AMAA best animation.

The nominations were announced on Friday at a ceremony at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria.

Winners will be announced later at the main awards night in Kigali, Rwanda.

This was after the Rwandan government, through the Rwanda Convention Bureau and Rwanda Development Board, has in line with its Pan-African and Africa integration agenda accepted to host the award ceremony months ago.

It will be the second time an AMAA event has gone to Rwanda after its nominations gala event in Kigali in 2017.

According to earlier statement issued in Lagos by the organisers, the main event will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre on Saturday, September 22.
